Summary
At the beginning of “News from Izghe,” the family learns that rains have come early in Izghe. Ya Ta hopes that, if this is so, then the family will be able to afford her school fees the next year. Pastor Moses lectures against Boko Haram. Later he announces that his son--presumably Success--is getting married. In the next chapter, Ya Ta learns that it is Prosper, and not his brother Success, getting married. The voice on Papa’s radio announces that Boko Haram has burned a mosque and several thousand homes to the ground.
Ya Ta wonders about what it would be like to touch a boy’s hand. Ya Ta attends a naming ceremony where Pastor Moses lectures on the importance of names. Ya Ta begins to doubt that she will win the scholarship. Ya Ta’s brothers, Papa, and Sarah all begin...
