Samantha Heather Mackey
Samantha is the novel's narrator and protagonist. A 25-year-old woman in the final year of the MFA fiction writing program at elite East Coast writing school Warren University, Samantha is experiencing writer's block, loneliness, and depression at the beginning of the novel. She disdains the four other women in her workshop class, whom she calls the "Bunnies" (3) because of their shared nicknames for one another, and her only friend is Ava, a dropout from the nearby art school. Over the course of the plot, Samantha is enticed into the Bunnies' circle because of her intense need to belong, and then drugged by them, and compelled to take part in a violent and disturbing conjuring ritual that involves turning bunnies into men that symbolize the women's collective fantasies. Samantha is rescued from the Bunnies' clutches, but ultimately returns to them only to create the most villainous man...
