Summary
The narration of the first part of Chapter Thirteen focuses on Ti-Jeanne as she makes her way home. On route, she passes through a busy street market, where some of the vendors share their wares with her, and offer their condolences on the death of Mami. Ti-Jeanne is comforted by it all, but still dreads returning home. When she arrives, she finds that Baby is being well taken care of by Jenny the gypsy, and is surprised to learn that her mother, Mi-Jeanne, is not dead after all, but was merely wounded by Tony’s bullet. Baby is happy to see her, but she is exhausted. Jenny puts her to bed, setting her up so that Baby can breastfeed while she sleeps.
