Chapter 53 Summary

Without warning, the figure of Death comes toward Odd out of nowhere and knocks him flying. Odd moves as fast as he can after landing, and a wing chair quickly follows, crashing where he had been. This time Death has the face of Brother John. Death came at Odd again. Rodion pulls out his pistol and fires at death until he dissolves, but as quickly as he does, he rematerializes and it begins again. Rodion quickly empties another clip into it, noticing that Brother John stands in the corner with his eyes closed, creating it again and again.
