Chapter 25 Summary

Looking straight at Odd, the figure extends a white hand. A noose appears in Death's left hand. Death points at Odd, and Constantine steps forward to draw away Death's attention.

Constantine jumps on the bells as the Reaper suddenly lunges forward and tries twice to put the noose over Odd's neck. Odd knows if the Reaper manages to get the noose on, he will die. In a sudden flash of intuition, Odd says "I know you." Odd repeats himself. The face forms further, then the Reaper leaps out the bell tower window. The Reaper's tunic spreads like wings, he glides to the church roof, then jumps off toward the Abbey's lower roof. He seems to become a million pieces, then reassembles as he lands.
