Chapter 16 Summary

Sister Clair Marie asks him what's wrong. He doesn't want to worry her. Then she grabs Odd's boots and opening the front door, begins beating the snow off them. Odd hurries over to her expecting immediate problems, but by the time he reaches her, she is closing the door unscathed. Then she sends him to see Mother Superior, who had summoned him.

Chapter 16 Analysis

Odd takes stock of himself, and still struggling with what he witnessed, he is pale. When Sister Clair Marie notices that, she asks him what's wrong, but Odd doesn't want to frighten her, so he can't tell her the truth. Instead, he tells a lie. He tells her that the snow outside is the trouble. He has never seen it before and makes her believe that he feels the weather is ominous. She goes to great lengths to tell...
