Mira
Mira is the author’s father. He was born in rural Haiti in the first half of the twentieth century. As a young man, he became a tailor’s apprentice and then tried to make a living as a tailor. However, the job was not lucrative, and he instead became a shoe salesman. After marrying and having two children, he went to America to find work and make money for his family. His wife joined him, and his brother Joseph agreed to take care of Mira’s two children. Mira and his wife had two children in America. Years after his arrival in America, Mira was able to bring his first two children to live there as well.
Mira worked as a cab driver in America. He owned the cab, as he did not want to work for someone else. The work was stressful and occasionally dangerous...
