Changes Summary

The narrator is a woman who is five weeks pregnant. She is in the forest getting ready to make the Change from human into a wolf. She is concerned about making the change now that she knows she is pregnant. She thinks she might hurt her baby. She thinks about how many times she changed without yet knowing that she was pregnant and that everything was fine.

Once she makes the change, she starts to gallivant until she works herself up into a full-fledged run. She notices another wolf, a male wolf, off in the distance laughing at her. She starts to charge him. The male wolf runs and hides, but the female wolf finds him. They frolic together, but the male wolf is careful not to fling the female off in her "condition."
