Summary

Kennedy went to the hospital to interview Jennifer by himself. She looked exhausted, though someone had managed to get her clean. When he told her that Conor had confessed to the murders, she was horrified, but she still wouldn’t tell him more. Kennedy sensed that her desire to die had pushed her past all earthly concerns. He decided to ask her for the truth without a caution, meaning that he couldn’t use it as evidence in court. Collecting herself, she chose to tell him her story. She began by explaining how Patrick had become tense and snappish after he lost his job. They had begun hemorrhaging money right away, and Jennifer had felt such deep shame that she cut off contact with all of her friends. Then the break-ins had started, small things missing from the home, and Patrick had begun...
