Chapters 31 and 32 Summary

In Chapter 31, the Nagini flies into the loading dock of the Martian ship. The crew sees a machine there that has electricity but is not active. Hand suggests they find a safe place for the buoy and then they can explore the ship to satisfy their curiosity. The crew hears singing coming from one of the corridors in the ship and Wardani says it's a songspire, which is a Martian tree that gives off a mustard and cherry aroma and sings. As Wardani is heading back to Nagini because Sutjiadi says something to make her mad, Kovacs and Wardani hear something or someone singing the Wedge neurachem. They find a forest of songspire growing in one of the corridors. The twisting way they are growing suggests they are communicating with one another.
