Chapters 13 and 14 Summary

In Chapter 13, Kovacs and Hand sort out the good cortical stacks from the psychotic and damaged ones. The two also discuss the need to wipe out the city of Sauberville in order to carry out the mission. In addition, Kovacs and Hand discuss some benefits they can offer to the soldiers and workers they end up recruiting. When the final 212 candidates are narrowed doen, Hand uses a virtual version of him to interview each one. Kovacs and Hand go to the roof of Mandrake Towers for fresh air, to smoke a cigarette and talk. They talk about the man, Semetaire, who runs the cortical stack selling operation and they discuss relationships. Three months later, the virtual Hand has narrowed it down to 11 cortical stacks. Then hand and Kovacs use themselves for final selection from the 11 possible candidates.
