Part 5, Chapters 1-6 Summary
At the beginning of Part Five, Dallow and Pinkie are walking down the street. Spicer's death has by now been deemed an accident. Pinkie is becoming more aggressive and more paranoid. He is haunted by the memory of Kite's dying breath, and he suspects more killing may be on the way. Dallow convinces his teetotaling boss to join him and Cubitt at the Queen of Hearts for a drink. They take a car out to the country and sit down with Cubitt and Sylvie, Spicer's old girl. After a fair amount of prodding from the boys, Pinkie orders a drink. Sylvie seems less than distraught by Spicer's death, referring to everyone by a pet name and asking Pinkie to dance. The two dance, and Pinkie - determined to push himself over the edge - invites her back to the...
