Chapter Eight, O Couture Summary

The narrator finds himself at the entrance to the Waldorf Astoria for the fashion show in which he hopes to see his estranged wife, Amanda. He has obtained a ticket from his friend at Vogue magazine, who owed him a favor for the time he destroyed the vintage car he had borrowed from the narrator by crashing it into a deer.

A tall woman with silver hair examines his pass while two large black men dressed as slaves stand guard inside. He makes his way to the bar and orders a drink. He steals a briefcase from a man talking to two Asian women at the bar and takes a seat in the middle of a middle row. He has plans to pose as a terrorist and pretend the briefcase conceals a bomb.
