Summary
This story is one of the few in this collection that is told from a third-person perspective, with the protagonist being a man in Massachusetts only identified as Day. The story is separated into several sub-sections, each with a new heading (i.e., "Art," "Two Colors"), that are not told in chronological order. Several of the passages, such as the first paragraph of the story (194), abstractly describe dreams that Day has.
In chronological order: Day is hired by Dr. Ndiawar to work as an art therapist who travels to clients' homes in Massachusetts, with a focus on clients who have become shut-ins as a result of their recent trauma. Day is paired with Kevin Yang, a case worker, who is incredibly relaxed and often focuses on his "special talent" of "mental rotation of three-dimensional objects" (196).
