Summary
An unnamed narrator, in their early 20’s, describes how, when they were moving out of their parents’ house at age 19, they suddenly unearthed a repressed memory of their father “waggling his dick in my face” (75) when the narrator was watching TV as a kid. Although the narrator had never been aware of this incident before, they suddenly remember it in intricate and vivid detail.
As the narrator and their father drive in the rental moving van (when the narrator is age 19), the narrator asks their father about the incident, out of the blue (77). The father does not say anything but instead gives the narrator a long and meaningful look, potentially of denial, that deeply infuriates the narrator for months afterwards.
