Summary

Pikelet had the chance to spend quality time with Sando, while Eva was away and Loonie (who had finished school) was working at the sawmill. Their conversations turned to history, literature and current affairs, as well as surfing. Pikelet noticed a photo of Eva skiing, and Sando explained that she had been a notorious freestyle skier in the US, before damaging her knee in a fall. Previous operations had been unsuccessful, but she had gone home now for another one.

Loonie lost his job, and started visiting Sando more. The pair of them left for Indonesia, without informing Pikelet. He kept going to the house to feed the dog, until Eva returned and shouted him off the premises. A week later he went back for his surfboard, and she apologized.
