In Chapter 16: Too-Much-Information Alert, Jacob leaves Seth to watch the perimeter while he and Leah scout to see if Sam's pack is hunting vampires. Edward asks if Bella said something, but she did not; he can hear the baby, and it likes the sound of Bella's voice. As Edward's eyes fill with adoration and he tells Bella that the baby absolutely adores her, Jacob realizes he is all alone.
