Patrick Braden / Pussy
For all intents and purposes, Patrick Braden is the author of this book. The story is told through his experiences and his point of view. Patrick is the orphan of Father Bernard and Eily Bergin, a young girl who was raped by the priest. Patrick suffers from gender confusion, which may be a result of his lack of parenting. He searches, in lovers and within himself, for his mother. Patrick is a transsexual who may or may not want 'to become his mother,' as his psychologist Terence believes. When searching for lovers, Patrick is really looking for caretakers. He is very confused about the concept of love, and believes that affection is demonstrated through gifts.
Braden is a tragic hero because he does not conquer his demons, which revolve around his past. Patrick cannot forgive his father and is stuck in a cycle of anger...
