Chapter 51, I Become a Bit of a Busybody Summary
Patrick buys a bungalow when he returns to Tyreelin. He seeks out Charlie, who'd been kicked out of her parent's house after dropping out of school, and finds her stumbling around the village with a bottle of vodka in her hand. Patrick takes her in and buys a dog to keep Charlie company. Charlie, who continues to drink abusively, names the dog Squire. Patrick cleans the house constantly and ruminates on the incident behind the creamery with Martina Sheridan.
Chapter 51, I Become a Bit of a Busybody Analysis
The story is ending. Patrick returns to Tyreelin and finds Charlie in a terrible state, depressed, dealing with Irwin's death. Patrick, who equates affection with gifts, purchases a dog for Charlie.
