Chapter 45, A Great Day for Bonzo Summary
An old classmate of Patrick's, Pat McGrane, is leaving his job at a frozen meat plant. He receives his paycheck and finds that there is extra money for some overtime. It is Thursday and, like every Thursday, Pat crosses the border in order to go dancing with his girlfriend, Sandra. She likes Gene Stuart and the Mighty Avons; he likes Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), and dresses like John Fogerty. Pat is happy when Gene Stuart covers 'Bad Moon Rising,' a CCR song. After taking Sandra home, Pat drives back toward Tyreelin. He drives through Rosary Row, named for all the deaths that had occurred on a particular stretch of road. Someone carrying a lantern stops him. Before he knows what is going on, Pat is hit in the head with a wheel-brace...
