Chapter 33, A Long-Ago Night in November Summary
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Bergin are peacefully sitting by the fire listening to the radio on a Saturday night. Their daughter, Eileen - Eily for short - is upstairs listening to music. Eily loves songs by Vic Damone. The following day, Mrs. McGlynn has an accident, and Eily, who is a very good person, agrees to fill in for her at Father Bernard's house. After preparing breakfast for the priest, she watches a young girl, who looks a lot like herself, get raped. She gets pregnant and decides not to abort the baby, but to give it away to the Bradens.
