Chapter 31, Running out on Louise Summary
Patrick reveals his secret to Louise - his mother's name was Eily Bergin and his father was a priest. Louise consoles him and after learning about Patrick's real mother, Louise assaults Patrcik and asks if he will stay for breakfast. Patrick confesses to Terence that he hates the word breakfast. Terence urges Patrick to write a story about his father.
Chapter 31, Running out on Louise Analysis
Louise's anger over Patrick's betrayal (he thinks about Eily and not her) is ironic because Louise is pretending that Patrick is her son. Patrick most likely does not like the word breakfast because it reminds him of his mother's rape.
