Chapter 24, A Big Dead Flower Summary
Patrick, who inherited a good singing voice from his father, sings at the Wheatsheaf Hotel every Sunday morning. In character as Miss Dusty Springfield, Patrick sings songs such as, 'The Windmills of Your Mind,' 'Shout!,' and his favorite, 'Son of a Preacher Man.' After his gigs, Patrick and Bret get drunk, go home, and have sex. After sex, the "Daffodil Man" passes out like a "big dead flower."

This book is very much about forgiveness, or, more accurately, about Patrick's inability to forgive his father. Patrick sings 'Son of a Preacher Man' - this is part of his ongoing attack on his priest father.
