Chapter 8, Breakfast Is Served Summary

The short story recounts the fictional meeting of Patrick's mother and Father Bernard. His mother is a young housekeeper who prepares breakfast for the sexually deprived priest. Father Bernard, whom Patrick refers to as Father Stalk, is turned on at the sight of the young girl's thigh and suddenly jumps on her and forces the girl to have sex with him. After the rape, the girl sings in her head: "Go anywhere / Go anywhere without leaving your chair / and let your thoughts run free / Living within your chair / and let your thoughts run free / Living within all the dreams you can spin / We'll visit the stars and journey to Mars / Finding our breakfast on Pluto!"
