Summary
“Return to Me” began with Cracker awaiting Arch’s arrival. He told her that he and Roy owned their own Candlepin bowling alley. Arch’s presence made Margaret happy. When they went to sleep, Arch acknowledged how much he missed his family. Cracker took a risk on love and allowed Arch back into their home. They began a new, childless life together in “The Old Woman of the Rooftop.” Arch tried to clean the home and ended up in Margaret’s room. There, he found papers, including letters to Margaret from his father. Underneath the pile was Bertha’s will from a year before her death, detailing that Truitt’s Alleys be bequeathed to Joe Wear.
