The protagonist of the novel, David Webb, is a man tormented by having two distinct personalities residing in his body. David Webb, the professor, is happily married and the father of two wonderful children. His past includes being a member of a death squad in Vietnam and a CIA trained assassin created to go after Carlos the Jackal. As David Webb, with the help of his wife, Marie, he struggles with memories that come from his alter personae.
