Chapter 15 Summary
Jason returns to Tranquility and plans are laid for the arrival of Carlos the Jackal, who is expected at noon. Now fifty years old, Jason is not in the shape he was fifteen years ago in Hong Kong. He is frightened and shouts abuse at his brother-in-law. He is also confronted with the problem of having to trust Fontaigne and Prefontaigne as they wait for the Jackal's arrival. Some of the guests at the Inn are enlisted to help lay a trap for the Jackal. Jason tells Fontaigne that it is a lie that the Chameleon, one of Bourne's many names, is a "man that lives with a kind of raw fear few people have ever experienced." (Page 209) Fontaigne suggests that Jason return to being David Webb and take his family and disappear for a time. He knows of the Jackal's terminal illness...
