When Evyn was just one, her mother was killed in a car accident. She has never known what it is like to have a mother in her life. Because of this, Ev makes up a mother in her head, Stella. Ev talks to Stella and Stella even talks back to Ev.

Ev is having a hard time fitting in at home and at school. She misses her best friend in Boston and her old life. The only way that Ev seems to fit in is when the "It Girl" at school realize they can get them information about one of her stepbrothers, Ajax, who is a soccer star and one of the cutest girls in school. This backfires when the girls find out that Ev lied to them about whom Ajax likes.

When Ev finally stops resisting all of the change in her life, she starts to see things in a new light. It is at this time that Ev embraces her family and even the baby that is on the way the first of the children that will be a part of Eleni and Al. in the end, Ev learns that change doesn't have to always be bad.
