Summary
Rachel recalls her youth. She was born on an island where her mother was a doctor and her father a politician. They left the island when she was six due to concerns about rising sea levels. After that, they lived as refugees, but Rachel's parents always made sure she was safe and educated. Rachel cannot remember how she came to the city or how her parents died.
Borne begins to change his appearance, sprouting a number of eyes. Rachel asks him why he did not help when she was being attacked by the children.
