Summary
Bruce struggles to find a saxophonist to replace Clarence but eventually settles on his nephew Jake Clemons. After a rocky start in which he arrives unprepared for his first professional meeting with Bruce, Jake eventually gets his act together and finds his place within the band.
Shortly after his sixtieth birthday, Bruce falls into a serious depression. Patti had previously helped Bruce get the therapy and medication he needs to deal with the clinical mental illness he has likely inherited from his father. However, deciding to try going off the medication around the age of sixty leads to a downward spiral. After a period of deep sadness, Bruce decides to go back on medication and it works.
