Summary
Chapter 8
In Chapter 8, the group arrives at Emma’s cabin and everyone is impressed with the luxury it affords compared to the lives they are used to. They enjoy some delicious tomato soup, which is among the many vegetables Emma canned over the summer. As everyone prepares for bed, Emma and Will go outside to draw well water for washing up and he asks why she left him behind. When she replies that he chose the retreat over her, he argues that he came for her when Marshall sold her out and tries to convince her that he really loves her. Although she is enormously attracted to him, she also has feelings for Jake and she tells him that because she is a Gen baby, she can never love normally.
