Sokoto
Sokoto is a large city in the northeast of Nigeria with over half a million residents. In Born on a Tuesday, Sokoto is also the city where Sheikh and Malam Abdul-Nur develop their mosques and Muslim philosophies. Unlike Dogon Icce or Bayan Layi, Sokoto is large and bustling. It is home to many mosques, at least five of which have been funded by Alhaji Usman. Sokoto is described as dusty and poor. However, the city is also described as having an intellectual current, due to the mosques in the region as well as a university. Here, Dantala is welcomed by Sheikh and made an integral part of the mosque’s community. Sokoto is associated with Dantala’s intellectual development and physical growth.
