Summary
"10/4" opens by showing that Cohen the Narrator is having trouble figuring out how to begin. He crosses out several attempts at how to start Principal's autobiography but struggles to find Principal's voice. He goes back through his old .doc files to find inspiration and forces himself to sit down and write. Eventually, he immerses himself in Principal's life, letting go of the emphasis on hitting various writing goals. He is also able to reflect upon everything he has lost and is consoled by the idea of Rach being driven insane too. He then recalls the first time he went to the psychologist, Dr. Meany, with Rach and how he tried to analyze the doctor based on his possessions. However, the next memory he tries to recollect is shaky and unreliable. He ends up realizing how much of himself he had "outsourced, offshored, externalized...
