Summary
As Principal explains in the chapter entitled "Dubai", no one wanted to fund Tetration in the beginning. It is only through Moe that Tetration began to profit, and it was only haphazardly through his insight into billboard signs. His idea that ads should be shown based on individual's interests leads to the creation of Adverks. Adverks was "what lured Carbon Capital" into investing in the company (280). However, Carbon invested on one condition - that a president be hired who had managerial experience. That is when Kori "Kor" Denierowitz gets hired. From there, Tetration grew and hired more employees. As concerns for cyberattacks on users grew, Kor took more control over preventative efforts. Principal says that this was when Tetration "moved to the marsh and suddenly stunk" (294). Kor told them they were helping to shape freedom even though they were creating software for tracking...
