Point of View

The novel is written from several limited perspectives and is divided between first and third person. The novel opens in Sept-Tours where two ghosts are discussing the current situation at the estate. This chapter opens from the limited perspective of Philippe de Clermont, a vampire who is now a ghost. Emily Mather is with him but the reader knows only the thoughts and feelings of Philippe, not Emily. The perspective then switches to Phoebe Taylor as she interacts with Marcus de Clermont. The next scene takes on a more omniscient tone and the perspective does not seem as limited. This trend continues in any scene in which Diana is not present or is not the main character. This changing perspective and its limitations are not difficult to follow once the reader is more familiar with the cast of characters, which is quite extensive.
