Summary

Chapter 12 takes place on Diana's birthday. She and Matthew spend time together in bed that morning and she later waters the flowers. Her friend and colleague Chris Roberts arrives, angry because she has not responded to phone calls or emails. He is surprised she is pregnant and sad that Emily died. He consoles Sarah and she allows it, which Diana sees as a sign she is beginning to live again, though she is still deeply grieving.
