Summary
The prologue starts in first-person narrated by book agent Nora Stephens. She says that books are too predictable and describes the small-town romance where the cynical city boy falls in love and learns the meaning of life from a charismatic woman. However, Nora finds this unrealistic and thinks that she is the uptight city girlfriend that the hero always breaks up with. Her current boyfriend, Grant, is stuck in Texas after his appendix burst, but Nora could not leave her client so close to a sale. When Grant says he is not coming back, Nora guesses he met someone, and he admits it is the daughter of the hotel owner.
