In the prologue, a young man that had been in Lucius's unit when the rat creatures attacked tells Ted the bug about seeing Lucius in the arms of the hooded one who turned out to be a woman.

In chapter one, Thorn, Gran'ma, Smiley, Fone, and Phoney are all running from the explosions that started. While they are running, Kingdok appears and Smiley and Fone quickly take everyone to the secret cave that they had used earlier. Meanwhile, the men at Old Man's Cave are in a fierce battle with the rat creatures. The Lord of the Locusts resurrects Briar to finish freeing him. Meanwhile, once Fone, Thorn and the others are out of the cave at the old abandoned rat creature temple, they find that the entire land...
