The Valley or Vernal Equinox; Book Two: The Great Cow Race Summary

In chapter one the spring fair is going on. Phoney and Smiley decide that they can convince everyone that Gran'ma Ben is too old to win the race and spread rumors of a wild cow destine to beat Gran'ma Ben. When everyone bets on the mystery cow, Smiley in a cow outfit, they can keep the goods that everyone put up. Outside of town Gran'ma Ben is going for a run when people start commenting on the fact that she might not win this year. After asking around Gran'ma learns that no one is betting on her and she is quickly disheartened.
