This book collects three of Levertov's volumes that
were published in succession during the ten-year period
mentioned. They include The Freeing of the Dust

(1975), Life in the Forest (1978), and Candles
in Babylon
(1982). It is interesting to read the poems
that Levertov wrote for the collections that appeared
on each side of Life in the Forest and to compare
their use of metaphor to that of "The Blue Rim of Memory."

and nonacademic readers. It provides an
insightful look at Levertov and her work in chapters
such as "The Poet in the World: Private Vision and
