Point of View
The majority of the novel takes place in a third-person omniscient point of view, varying between characters depending on the context of the narrative. For example, the majority of the novel follows Daren's point of view as he attempts to investigate the murders in Lark, but occasionally the point of view will shift, to Geneva, Keith, or Isaac, for example, particularly during flashback sequences. These shifts in point of view are indicated by a shift in language to the new focal character's particular style of speech; for example, Keith's narration is filled with racial epithets, Geneva's with a particular southern dialect, and Isaac's with almost childlike perspective.
While the narration is not strictly reliable as it follows the mindset of the characters involved in the story, Darren's sequences are mostly logically sound and do not jump to conclusions. Other sections, however, do contain unreliable narration...
