Chapters 7-12 Summary

In chapter seven, Anita leaves Richard with Belisarius, and retrieves her gun from Officer Maiden. The police officer slides a bullet into the chamber and informs Anita that she should be careful, and that if Richard gets out on bail they should leave town. He also tells her that there have been witnesses around Richard since his arrest, but won't always be. Jason is confused, and Anita tells him that Maiden had given them a warning, vague though it may be. The warning is in time, as a truck full of men have pulls up outside the house across the street and threaten Shang-da. The men are surprised to see Anita and Jason and a fight ensues, with the five men taking the worst of it. Anita is on the ground when the police arrive, led by Sheriff Wilkes. The sheriff...
