Chapters 1-6 Summary

In chapter one, Anita Blake is awakened from a sensual dream by the youngest brother of her former fiancé, Richard Zeeman. Daniel is calling to tell Anita that Richard has been arrested for attempted rape and needs her help. Richard is in jail in a small town in Tennessee, and a full moon is five days away. Richard is a werewolf, and if his secret is revealed he will lose his job as a teacher. Anita agrees to help, knowing that Richard is incapable of committing the crime of which he has been accused.
