Magic

One of the most important themes in Blue Adept is that of magic. Over half of the novel is set in Phaze, the frame alternate Proton which contains magic and paranormal creatures. This theme dominates the novel as Stile struggles with his new position as the Blue Adept and learns the varying aspects of his magical abilities. The most obvious magic aspect of Phaze is the paranormal creatures that exist in that frame. There are vampires, such as Vodlevile, who Hulk encounters on his way to the Oracle and who reappears sporadically throughout Stile's adventures. There is also the Oracle, a mystical being taken from ancient Greek and Roman literature (among many other traditions) who prophesies about individual's futures.
