Chapter 3: Proton Summary
Neysa carries Stile to the nearest curtain in the forest, and he asks her to guard Lady Blue while he is in Proton. He undresses and walks through the curtain to Proton, the other frame where he originated and lived until the Blue Adept, his alternate self, was murdered. Stile resents being smaller than the other serfs in Proton as he walks to his room, dismisses his doppleganger robot and waits for Sheen, his beautiful protector. Pretending to be the robot, he tries to seduce her, but she recognizes Stile immediately. He acquaints her with the recent events in Phaze but accidentally hurts her by saying he cannot be with Neysa because his destiny lies with his own kind. When Sheen suggests searching for Lady Blue's alternate self in Proton, Stile declines. She reminds him that he must try to win...
