Chapters 16-20 Summary
In chapter 16, Anita meets with Sergeant Freemont at the Quinlan home. Freemont is not happy that Anita did not call her. Anita assumed that calling the state police would have notified Freemont as she was investigating a vampire kill so close by. It is clear by Freemont's reaction that Freemont had not told her superiors that the three boys had been killed by a vampire. The sergeant tells Anita that she had not found a reason to inform them, believing that Magnus was the suspect for whom she was looking. She tried to arrest him that morning, but he used glamor to escape. Freemont wonders why the vampires came back and taken Jeff as well as Ellie. Anita has no idea.
