Chapters 10 through 13 Summary
In Chapter Ten, Alex goes outside the next morning to find a note and a dead rat on his porch. From the note, he's certain it's from Richard Moody and he calls the attorney who had represented Mrs. Moody, a lawyer named Mal Worthy. Before Alex can speak, Mal says, "What color was yours?" indicating that he had also gotten a rat from Richard. He says that Mrs. Moody escaped Richard's hatred this time, that they have no real information for the police, and that the police probably won't follow up at this point. Alex calls on Milo with the story and Milo promises to send an officer to the Bedabye Motel where Richard is staying with a warning to stay away from Alex and Mal Worthy.
That night, Alex's answering service notifies Alex that Beverly Lucas is trying to reach...
