Chapters 1 through 4 Summary

In Chapter One, Dr. Alex Delaware is in the courtroom listening to the final judgment against a man named Richard Moody. Richard is being sued for divorce by his wife and has been deemed by Alex as unfit for visits with his children except under strict supervision. The judge agrees with Alex and gives Mrs. Moody full custody. Alex is summoned to the judge's chambers after court is adjourned where he tells the judge that he is mostly retired but does take on some court-related cases and some referrals from friends. Out in the parking lot, Alex is approached by Richard who pleads with him to tell the judge that Richard is capable of handling himself with the children. Alex tells Richard that he needs professional help and urges that he seek it out. Richard eventually becomes very angry and attacks...
