Richard Rahl

Richard Rahl is the main protagonist in the story. Richard defeated his father, Darken Rahl, in a previous story and Richard finds that he is now the new Lord Rahl. Because of an ancient spell set down from Richard's distant relative, Richard is magically bonded to the D'Haran people. Anyone who is bonded to Richard is beyond control of the dream walkers. Richard only becomes aware of his role as the new Lord Rahl when several of the servants that had been forced to Darken Rahl's service find him and swear their loyalty. Richard had given them their freedom after he defeated Darken Rahl. These servants had decided that they would use their freedom to protect and serve Richard in his quest to stop the Imperial Order.
