Summary
In “Los Angeles,” the narrator lives in a house with three wings. She and the Husband live in one wing, her children “and their attending au pairs” in another, and her 100 ex-boyfriends in another (3). From the kitchen, the narrator often watches her “old apartment complex,” where another girl now lives (3).
While the Husband is working, the narrator spends her days with her exes. They go shopping and out for food. The boyfriends help the narrator’s children with their lessons, too. When the Husband gets home, the “ex-boyfriends scatter” (5). Sometimes the narrator and the Husband go out for dinner.
Aaron and Adam are the only exes “that really matter” (7). Adam abused the narrator. She “was in love” with Aaron (7). When she was with Adam, the narrator “stayed indoors” to hide her wounds (7). She listened to music and read.
